Famiglia oriunda da Sospello la quale annoverò illustri personaggi già nei tempi passati. Merita speciale ricordo il padre gesuita Trofilo (1584-1663), di Onorato, che fu celebre teologo, valente scrittore e confessore del principe Maurizio di Savoia. Sebastiano, di Pietro, acquistò dai Marchesan porzioni del feudo di Falicon, di cui venne investito il 28 giugno 1597. Delle generazioni presenti merita speciale menzione Giuseppe Renato (1775-1850), di Giuseppe Gaetano e di Gabriella Gromo-Losa di Ternengo, il quale, come capitano, fece la campagna delle Alpi rimanendo ferito. Fece parte in seguito dell'esercito francese come colonnello, e nella campagna del 1814 fu gravemente ferito a Macon. Alla Restaurazione entrò nell'esercito sardo, dove raggiunse il grado di generale (1834). Fu governatore della provincia di Novara e successivamente di quella di Alessandria.
