Antica famiglia, originaria di Napoli, passata in Sicilia nel 1300 sotto Federico II d'Aragona. Sergio nel 1321 ottenne da questo re la facoltà di fortificare il castello di Trapani. Da lui discendono vari personaggi che si sparsero in Palermo, Messina, Catania e Trapani. Un Tommaso si stabilì in Palermo nel 1392, fu tesoriere del regno nel 1398 e senatore nel 1401. Il suo ramo si estinse nel 1521. In Messina fu stabilito un altro ramo da un Giovanni, il quale ottenne da Re Martino la baronia di Comiso ed altri beni. Da lui derivarono i baroni di Ribino e di S. Giacomo, e quelli delli Miri. Un Pietro trapiantò la propria famiglia in Catania, ed ottenne dalla regina Maria il titolo di regio familiare nel 1388.
