Cette famille est ancienne en Velay, connue depuis le commencement du XIIIème siècle. Excellente chevalerie qui tire son nom du château de la Rodde près Saugues. La filiation suivie de cette maison commence à Hugues, damoiseau, qui rendit hommage à l'évêque du Puy en 1308. Christophe, qui fut l'auteur de la filiation prouvée devant M. de Bezons, descendait de Hugues au VIIIème degré. Plusieurs membres de cette famille ont joué un rôle important dans les guerres civiles du Velay. Jean, sieur de Chateauneuf, fut commis du baron de Saint-Haon, aux États du Velay, le 20 juillet 1620; il épousa, quelques jours après, l'héritière de cette maison et devint ainsi baron de Saint-Haon. Par lettres patentes du mois de mai 1769, enregistrées au parlement de Toulouse, le 19 juin suivant, et au siège présidial du Puy, le 16 janvier 1770, le roi Louis XV unit et incorpora les châtellenies et mandements, seigneuries, fiefs et justices de Rochefort, des Combes, Monchamp, Cheyrac, Fay, Goys de Létang et Salettes à la baronnie de Saint-Haon, à laquelle ils étaient contigus, et érigea le tout en comté, sous le nom de cette famille de Saint-Haon, en faveur de Henri-Hyacinthe de Saint-Haon, capitaine dans le régiment de Chartres-cavalerie. Cette maison fut admise aux honneurs de la Cour en 1776. ...
