Richement possessionnée en Provence, Auvergne, Languedoc, substituée au XIVème siècle aux anciens barons de Canillac en Gévaudan. Elle a donné deux papes à l'Eglise: Clement VI (7mai 1342) et Grégoire XI (30 décembre 1370), l'un et l'autre bienfaiteurs de La Chaise-Dieu. C'est à eux que l'on doit la reconstruction de l'église de cette célèbre abbaye, ainsi que le Palais des Papes à Avignon, où l'on voit leurs armes sculptées. Nombreux chanoines-comtes de Brioude (1234-1550); un cardinal, archevêque de Rouen (1335); un évêque de Tulle et de Rodez, cardinal (1342); des chanoines dont un doyen de la cathédrale de Nôtre Dame du Puy (1343); de vaillants capitaines; un conseiller et chambellan du roi (1440), etc. Alliée aux principales familles de l'Auvergne, du Velay et du Gévaudan. Barons de Bouzols, par suite d'acquisition de cette terre et de celle de Servissas le 3 novembre 1347, aux de Poitiers-Valentinois. On leur attribue la reconstruction du château de Bouzols, où leur blason est encore apparent au-dessus de la porte de l'oratoire. ...
