Questa famiglia ha goduto nobiltá nella cittá di Napoli al seggio di Montagna, Tramonti, Capua, Benevento 1671, Foggia, Lucera, Andria, Catanzaro, Cosenza, Castelvetere, Montescaglioso e Massalubrense, ed in Sicilia. Ha vestito l'abito di Malta nel 1564. La famiglia Maio fu ascritta al Libro d'Oro, come appartenente al Seggio di Montagna, nei due rami dei Duchi di Sanpietro e dei Marchesi Maio Durazzo. Presso la Piazza del Vulcano in Napoli eravi un rione detto dei Maio. Sorgono monumenti di questa famiglia in Napoli nella chiesa di S.
