E difatti nella summenzionata chiesa, vi sono memorie di una famiglia, resa specialmente illustre da un Francesco Salata, segretario del Senato nel 1579. La casata diede, poi, uomini forti e vigorosi dedicati, in gran parte, alla navigazione, specialmente lungo la costa dalmata,dove ebbero una grande intraprendenza commerciale. Nuclei di questa gente si stabilirono a Chioggia, a Pellestrina ed in altri luoghi del litorale della laguna, dove, per distinguersi l'uno dall'altro, si denominarono: Chiodo, Bazzara, Drago, Grillo, Campanaro, Piva, Cajo, Dalla Cariola, Salata, Penini, Busi, Gallo, Labbia, Daotto, Bell'umore, Brazzara, Marchian, Marubio ecc.
