El primitivo solar del linaje fué la casa-torre edificada en el lugar de Rasines, del Ayuntamiento de Ramales, y de ese solar salieron las ramas que crearon nuevas casas solariegas en la repetida villa de Ramales, en el lugar de Gibaja, que también pertenece al Ayuntamiento de Ramales, y en el lugar de Toranzo, Valle de este nombre, del Ayuntamiento de Vega de Liévana y partido judicial de Pote, extendiéndose sus líneas por Castilla, las Vascongadas, la Rioja, Navarra, Aragón y otras regiones. En el año 1540 era Señora de las casas de su apellido en Rasines y Ramales doña María de S. y de Concha, que contrajo matrimonio con Diega de Alvarado Bracamonte y Velasco, quedando así unidas ambas casas. Su hermana, doña Inés de S., litigó el tercio y quinto de la herencia de sus padres, que correspondió a doña María, pero el pleito se falló a fabor de doña María por sentencia definitiva dada por la Real Chancillería de Valladolid el 16 de Octubre de 1554. Algunos de la casa de la villa de Ramales se apellidaron S., sin anteposición de patronímico; otros Ruiz de S., y otros González de S., según acusan los siguientes datos genealógicos, que también descubren la probada nobleza de este apellido. En principios del siglo XVII era natural y vecino de Ramales Pedro de S., marido de doña Isabel Ruiz, de la misma naturaleza, y ambos padres de Catalina de S., natural de Ramales, que casó con Rodrigo Ruiz, de la misma naturaleza, naciendo de esa unión Juan Ruiz S. ...
