Nobile famiglia lucchese, fatta provenire dai genealogisti dalla Liguria e da Pisa nel sec. XV con un Giovanni, la cui discendenza si dette, come le altre primarie famiglie lucchesi, al banco e alla mercatura. Acquistato censo e considerazione, ottenne dalla Repubblica la cittadinanza originaria con decreto dell'8 marzo 1652, con Filippo, di Bartolomeo, e coi suoi fratelli Lorenzo, Vincenzo e Francesco. Quest'ultimo fu arcidiacomo e vicario generale della diocesi e morì il 12 marzo 1691.
