Secondo quanto ci viene tramandato, la famiglia ebbe la concessione dell'arma e del titolo nobiliare in data 19 maggio 1494. Tuttavia si hanno notizie di essa già nel XIV secolo, con un non meglio specificato Schönleber, ministro in Bad Urach, ed un Heintz, notaio in Wetzgau. Anche successivamente, tal famiglia sempre è riuscita a produrre una serie di uomini che hanno reso illustre il suo nome, nei pubblici impieghi, nelle professioni liberali e nel servizio militare.
