En una ejecutoria de hidalguía dada por la Real Chancillería de Valladolid el 5 de Julio de 1498 a favor de los hermanos Juan, Pedro, Gonzalo y García S., vecinos de Medina del Campo (Valladolid), se dice que eran hijos de Pedro de Quintana y de Juana de Castañeda, llamada también Juana Ruiz de Castañeda, y nietos de Juan Pérez y de Juana González Cuevas, vecinos del Valle de Toranzo (Santander) y descendientes de la casa solar de Verzones. No aparece al apellido S. de esos cuatro hermanos ni en sus padres, ni en sus abuelos, y nada se dice en la ejecutoria que ganaron de lo que dió motivo a que se apellidaran S.
