Nobility crown SilvaApellido oriundo de Portugal, descendiente de un pretor de Lusitania, llamado Silvio, que floreció en el imperio de Nerón. Según otros autores desciende de Alderedo, Príncipe godo que, en tiempos del Rey Don Ramiro I, tuvo la dignidad de Conde palatino, del que descendió Don Gutierre Alderete de S., que vivió en el siglo X, primer ascendiente confirmado de este noble casa, enlazada con la primera artistocracia española. Don Luis de Salazar y Castro, escribió la "Historia de la Casa de Silva". El capitán portugués Diego de Silva Meneses, figuró la frente de la última expedición organizada por Don Enrique el Navegante contra las Islas Canarias. Después de asolar Fuerteventura y Lanzarote, se dirigió a Gran Canaria, tomando posesión de la torre de Gando, única posición de los castellanos. Era el año 1459. Enrique el Navegante moría en noviembre de 1460 y a mediados del año siguiente, se conminaba a Silva a hacer immediata entrega de la fortaleza. Diego de Herrera que consiguió le rindieran vasallaje los guanartemes, también logró quel el hidalgo portugués acudiese a Lanzarote el 30 de septiembre de 1462, a prestar pleito homenaje a sus furutos suegros. En Telde se edificó una "Casa de Oración", que realmente fue una segunda fortaleza para defensa de la isla. Caballeros de este apellido probaron su nobleza numerosas veces en las Ordenes Militares de Santiago, Calatrava, Alcántara, Carlo III y San Juan de Jerusalén y en las Reales Chancillerías de Valladolid y Granada. ...
