Antica famiglia della Brianza, oriunda dal villaggio omonimo. Tal casato, probabilmente, affonda le proprie origini nella illustre Sirtori "gens Sertoria", una famiglia che, nella Gallia Cisalpina, fu dedita al commercio ed alla vita militare. Due iscrizioni del I secolo d.C., d'altronde, hanno lasciato ai posteri ricordo di un Caio Sertorio Tertullo, "responsabile dei cittadini romani a Monza" e di un Lucio Sertorio, i quali portano l'emblema della famiglia dei Sertori. Nel XV secolo la famiglia ebbe l'immunità dai Duchi di Milano, mentre, nel 1647 secolo un Evangelista Sirtore ottene investitura dell'omonimo feudo, dal re di Spagna Filippo IV. Questo nobile casato, sempre attento ai bisogni della comunità, soprattutto dal punto di vista religioso, fu sempre molto amato dal popolo, grazie anche alle donazioni di terreni e per l'aver reso possibile la costruzione luoghi di culto.
