Puissante chevalerie du Velay, apparentée aux sires de Mercoeur en Auvergne et dont les premiers représentants sont dits neveux de St-Odillon. En souvenir de cette illustre parenté, plusieurs membres de cette maison portèrent le prénom de Beraud et furent même surnommés Mercoeur. D'autres liens existaient aussi entre les Solignac, les premiers seigneurs de Bouzols et les de Goudet. Robert vivait en 1033. Guillaume II, abbé du Monastier-St-Chaffre après 1036, est dit de la race des seigneurs de Solignac et neveu de St-Odillon, comme étant fils de sa soeur. Il est cité en 1025, parmi les neveux du célèbre fondateur de l'abbaye de la Voulte. Beraud s'en alla en Terre-Sainte avant 1190. Pierre, évêque du Puy de 1159 à 1189, est appelé Petrus de Solemmiaco dans le cartulaire de Chamalières, ce qui trache la question de son origine. Il est resté célèbre par ses démêlés avec les vicomtes de Polignac. Après avoir pacifié le Velay, il se retira, en 1189, au monastère de Citeaux, où il mourut et fut inhumé le 30 août 1191. Beraud II, baron de Solignac en 1195, abandonna le fief de Meyras au sire de Montlaur époux de Miracle. Beraud III transige en 1234, avec Bernard IV fit un legs en 1261 aux prêtres de l'église de St-Vincent. Gilbert baron de Solignac et de St-Agrève, fut fait chevalier en 1294. Il épousa Sibylle de la Roue héritière d'une grande maison d'Auvergne. De cette union vinrent plusieurs filles et quatre fils: I° Beraud; 2° Liotaud; 3° Raymond; 4° Bertrand, tige de la seconde maison de la Roue dont il reprit le nom et les armes, en devenant seigneur et baron de la Roue, Montpeloux, Usson, Aurec, Oriol, etc. comme héritier de Bertrand sire de la Roue frère de sa mère. Sa descendance, grandement alliée, s'éteignit au XVIème siècle avec Jeanne mariée en 1543 à René d'Hérail baron de Pierrefort. ...
