Bourgeoisie de St-Didier-la- Séauve dont le nom s'est parfois écrit Saunier. Elle compte parmi ses membres les seigneurs du Lac, de la Tour des Sauvages près Aurec. Jean docteur en médecine, conseiller du roi, maire de la ville de St-Didier-Nérestang, fit inscrire en 1696 ses armoiries dans d'Hozier. François Sonyer, aussi médecin de la ville de St-Didier, marié à Catherine Laurençon, fut le père de noble Denis-Augustin Sonyer docteur en médecine à St Didier, et de noble Jean-Baptiste, avocat du roi (1752) à Montbrison, allié dans cette ville en 1760 à Françoise Desarnaud, conseiller du roi en 1788, mort le 2 août 1792. Son frère devint vicaire-général de l'évêché de Lodève et son fils: Hector Sonyer du Lac de la Tour des Sauvages, d'abord officier de dragons, publia en 1816 une histoire de la Hatute-Loire et réunit une très belle blibliothèque aujourd'hui dispersée . La distinction familiale représentée ici sous forme de blason, survit à travers les siècles grâce à des précieux témoignages qui nous ont permis de rapporter les exploits et les gestes de cette noble famille.
