Família descendente de Paulo de Cunha S., fidalgo da C. R., que n. em Braga, cerca de 1540 e f. na casa de Belinho a 2.7.1628 (segundo os nobiliários era 3º neto de D. Pero Alvarez de S., senhor da Casa de S., na Galiza, visconde de Tuy e conde de Caminha, e de sua mulher D., Teresa de Távora) que c. precedendo escritura de 12.5.1564, com D. Gracia de Faria, filha de Manuel de Faria Mariz, fidalgo da C. R. (7º neto do alcaide do castelo de Faria, Nuno Gonçalves) senhor dos morgados de Agrela e Barreta, e de sua mulher D. Felícita de Gouveia, herdeira do cargo de juiz dos órfãos na vila de Barcelos. Paulo da Cunha S. e sua mulher instituiram, por escritura de 15.2.1614, o morgadio de Belinho em S. Paio de Antas, no antigo termo de Barcelos, hoje no concelho de Esposende, a que anexaram a capela de Nossa Senhora do Rosário, por eles construida junto à casa de Belinho, onde jazem e que é, ainda hoje, local de sepultura desta família. Dos instituidores foi neto, e segundo administrador do vínculo, João da Cunha S., fidalgo da C. R., comendador de Troviscozo na o. de Cristo, que com seus irmãos se notabilizou nas guerras da Aclamação e contra os holandeses no Brasil, tendo sido mestre de campo e governador das armas da província do Minho, tenente-general de cavalaria e governador do Pernambuco. Casou 1ª vez, s. g. , com S. Ana Barbosa que trouxe a esta Casa o vínculo de S.ta Cruz, em Geraz do Lima; e 2ª vez com D. Apolónia de Brito Malheiro, filha de João Aranha Malheiro. ...
