Tale cognominizzazione potrebbe derivare da una forma dialettale arcaica rovigota del termine veneziano antico "squaena". Si trovano memorie di questa casata fin dalla metà del secolo XV, quando fu anche detta Cavajoni, o da Cavajoni. Bartolomeo nel 1408, Antonio nel 1450 e Francesco, nel 1517, furono nel numero dei nobili consiglieri di Verona. Questa famiglia, infatti, risulta aggregata a quel nobile consiglio, sin dal 1408 e vi rimase sino alla sua cessazione. La presenza dell'arma e del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia Squaiera, inoltre, ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta dalla casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei cavalieri, esposti alle finestre delle locande in cui ...
