Antica ed illustre famiglia, bergamasca di origine, trapiantatasi in Lecce, nel 1234. Un Domenico nel 1618 fu sindaco in patria; un Antonio, vivente nel 1656, fu dottore in Sacra Teologia; un Michele, vivente nel 1708, fu dottore in ambo le leggi; un Oronzo, monaco benedettino, fu per molti anni professore in Pisa di diritto canonico, di cui scrisse le Instituzioni e la Storia, stampate le prime in Firenze nel 1752. Un ramo di questa famiglia venne in possesso del feudo baronale detto Demanio, posto nelle adiacenze di Lecce, portato in dote da Petronilla Costantini, figlia del fu barone Gennaro, maritata ad un altro Oronzo, nel 1821. La presenza del motto, inoltre, nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia, ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata.
