Fautore del governo di Gioacchino Murat esulò da Napoli nel 1815, ove era giudice criminale e riparò nel Ducato di Lucca, ove contrasse matrimonio con Elisabetta Bartolomei, vedova Buccella e meritò le grazie del duca Carlo Lodovico di Borbone che gli affidò l'intendenza del suo patrimonio privato nominandolo consigliere di Stato con decreto del 16 luglio dello stesso anno, cariche dalle quali fu costretto a dimettersi per i suoi sentimenti liberali.
