Elle compte parmi ses membres les seigneurs de Chiliaguet, de l'Estival, de Brinionx près Tailhac, de Lavés, etc. Cette famille qui possédait plusieurs fiefs sur les confins du Velay et du Gévaudan en 1666, fut convoquée en 1789, à l'assemblée de la noblesse d'Auvergne à Riom. Un de ses représentants, M. Torrent de Lavés, était propriétaire à Venteuges près Saugues en 1844. Branche à Thiers, issue d'Antoine Torrent, notaire à Moissac avant 1599, établie à Lyon (1626), anoblie par l'échevinage.
