Dos antiguas casas de este apellido hubo en Guipúzcoa: una en la villa de Andovín, del partido judicial de Tolosa y otra en la de Urnieta, del partido de San Sebastián. De esta última se derivó una rama que pasó a Legazpia, villa del partido de Vergara, y luego a Chile. de ella fué Juan Martínez de U., vecino de Urnieta y marido de Doña María de Garaicoechea, padres de Pedro de U., que rindió información de su hidalguía en Legazpia el 10 de Noviembre de 1670, siendo aprobada en Junta General celebrada en Hernani. Casó con Doña Mariana de Ondaneta, y procrearon a Domingo de U., que sigue, y Juanes de U. Domingo de U., nació en Legazpia y casó allí, el 22 de Mayo de 1657, con Doña Luisa Tellería Aguirre. Su hijo José de U., bautizado en Legazpia el 17 de Abril de 1673, casó allí, el 7 de Agosto de 1702, con Doña Margarita de Zanguitu y Goya, naciendo de esta unión Andrés de U., bautizado en Legazpia el 24 de Diciembre de 1711, y Cristóbal de U., que sigue. Este Cristóbal de U., nació y casó en Legazpia con Doña Micaela de Legazpi. Tuvieron varios hijos. Uno de ellos llamado Francisco Javier de U., bautizado en Legazpia el 1 de Noviembre de 1744, pasó a Chile y casó en primeras nupcias, en la estancia de Huentelanque (Quillota), el 20 de Febrero de 1781, con Doña María de Loreto Astaburuaga y Pizarro, y en segundas nupcias en la estancia Conchali (Illapel), el 18 de Marzo de 1791, con Doña María Manuela García Abello, fallecida en Santiago en 1795. ...
