De este muy noble y antiguo linaje aragonés se han ocupado ilustres historiadores y genealogistas, recogiendo abundantes datos históricos, biográficos y genealógicos, cuya exposición llenaría numerosas páginas de esta oba, y requeriría un estudio tan extenso como detenido para reparar las noticias comprobadas de las notoriamente fabulosas o legendarias que suelen desfigurar y oscurecer los orígenes y primitivas generaciones de pretéritas familias. En su historia de San Juan de la Peña dice Briz Martínez que los U. descienden del primer Rey de Navarra, García Ximénez, por los años de 718. Jéronimo de Aponte manifiesta que en fines del siglo XI, cuando la conquista de Huesca, floreció un caballero llamado Maximiliano de U., marido de Doña Toda Garcés, de la Casa de Sobrarbe. También hay autores que derivan la casa de U. de la soberana de Baviera. Estos afirman que el dicho Maximiliano era hijo de Un Emperador germano y que habiendo venido en peregrinación a Santiago de Compostela, se quedó al servicio del Rey aragonés Pedro I, tomando el apellido de U. por haber ganado a los moros el lugar del mismo nombre. Pero la versión no puntualiza si ese lugar fué el de Urrea de Gaen, que pertenece al partido judicial de Hijar y provincia de Teruel, o si se trata de la hoy villa de Urrea de Jalón, del partido de Almunia y provincia de Zaragoza. Mosén Jaime Febrer coincide, en parte, con esa última ascendencia germana atribuída a los U., mencionando a Ximén de U., Ricohombre de Aragón. ...
