Oriundo del Valle de Gordejuela, del partido de Valmaseda en la provincia de Vizcaya. Doña Elvira de U., en quien por falta de varón recayó la Casa de su apellido, contrajo matrimonio con Don Fernando de Zúñiga, su pariente, hijo de Don Sancho de Zúñiga, Mariscal de Castilla y nieto de Don Diego López de Zúñiga, Ricohombre y Camarero Mayor del Rey Don Enrique III, cuya ascendencia sube hasta el Rey Don García Ramírez de Navarra. Su hijo y sucesor, que conservó el apellido materno, fue Don Pedro de U., padre de Don Juan de U. el Vejo, Señor de la Torre de U., que casó con Doña María de Salcedo, hija de Don Domingo de Salcedo, de la Casa de Salcedo de Aranguti. Un bisnieto de este matrimonio, Don Juan de U. Villanueva y Salazar, Caballero de la Orden de Santiago, nacido en Gordejuela en septiembre de 1606, vino a Canarias en 1635, acompañando al Obispo de estas islas Don Francisco Sánchez de Villanueva, su primo, y se estableció en Tenerife. Casó en la parroquia de los Remedios, de La Laguna, el 12 de agosto de 1637, con Doña María de Acuña, hija del Capitán Don Gaspar Gómez de Acuña. Don Juan de U. Villanueva y Salazar, nacido en 1606, probó su nobleza en la Real Orden de Santiago. Otra casa muy antigua. En el Valle de Gordejuela, del partido de Valmaseda (Vizcaya). Juan de U. casó con doña María de Saldaza y fueron padres de Juan y de Domingo de U. y Saldaza, que en 1579 sostuvieron un pleito sobre sucesión de un mayorazgo con Domingo de S., obteniendo sentencia favorable el 21 de octubre de 1580. ...
