Übername, wird heute als "verschmitzter Mensch" verstanden und auf "feinäuglen" (alemannisch fineglen) gleich "blinzeln" bezogen. Indes ist das Verb jünger und läßt deutlich Bedeutungsverschiebung erkennen. Wegen des Grundworts bayrisch ainagget (einäugig), grenagget (triefäugig), blenaggeln (blinzen) usw. Das "gg" erklärt sich aus dem althochdeutschen augja. Das Bestimmungswort kann natürlich nicht "fein" (aus dem französischen fin) sein, das 1244 im Oberdeutschen noch gar nicht da ist, sondern ist. Auslautendes "m" zieht sich ja auch sonst auf "n" zurück (Besen, Boden, Busen, Faden, Gaden, Schwaden usw. hatten alle ursprünglich schließendes "m"). Feinagg wäre also wie Schmalzigaug, Grünäugl, Plenagl, Greck usw. ein Krankheitsname und bezeichnete einen mit einem fließenden Auge (Bindehautkatarrh, Entzündung der Meibomschen Drüsen usw.). Das mit einem solchen Augenübel verbundene Blinzeln führt dann zur Umdeutung des früh nicht verstandenen Namens.
