El linaje del noble apellido Valderrama, tuvo en la antigüedad su palacio y casa solar en las montañas de Burgos, en un pueblo llamado Valderrama, situado entre Frías y Cubilla, del cual tomó su nombre esta ilustre familia, y al que hoy se conoce por villa de Valderrama. Desde este lugar se extendió este apellido por varias comarcas de España y muy principalmente por Andalucía e Indias. El solar de esta familia es conocido por su notoria hidalguía de sangre, y los descendientes de ella tienen esa consideración y asistían a las juntas de caballeros hijosdalgo del valle de Tobalina, que se reunían en el lugar de Quintana María Glandes. En la iglesia de Santa María de Valderrama cercana a la Santísima Trinidad, tenía sus sepulcros familiares con sendos escudos en su camazo. Probaron su nobleza para ingresar en la Orden de Santiago, en los años que se indican: García de Valderrama Arce y Fernández de Fuenmayor, natural de Nájera (La Rioja), en 1657; García de Valderrama y Ortega, natural de Granada el 13 de noviembre de 1689; Francisco Valderrama y Rejón de Viana, natural de Málaga, en 1661 y José de Valderrama y Verdugo, también natural de Málaga, el 24 de agosto de 1688. Tras el descubrimiento del Nuevo Mundo, muchos fueron los hombres y mujeres que cruzaron el Atlántico en busca de nuevos horizontes y en concreto los que portando el apellido Valderrama extendieron su linaje por América. Así pues, tras nuestra investigación realizada en el Archivo General de Indias, encontramos que Elvira de Baeza, natural de Sevilla, y sus nietos Adriana y Hernando de Valderrama, partieron hacia Nueva España, el 25 de junio de 1578. También encontramos que Ana de Valderrama, natural de Écija, hija de Luis Sánchez y de María de Valderrama junto con su esposo, Juan Ruiz, natural de Sevilla, viajaron hacia Santo Domingo, el 16 de mayo de 1580.
