Egli fu il capostipite della potente famiglia che per lungo tempo dominò quel castello dal quale prese ili nome; Guido da Mandra è detto giudice in una certa del 1169; un altro Ubaldo e un Anselmo furono incaricati nel 1170 dai capitani di Baiso di difendere la rocca di Carpineto; Jacopo ottenne la cittadinanza di Reggio, e giurò di tenenre all'ubbidienza di quel Comune il suo castello di Mandra.
