Cette famille est ancienne en Vivarais et paraît originaire de Chassiers, où elle habitait le château de La Vernade. Le Vicomte de montravel remonte sa généalogie au commencement du XVème siècle. Agnès est nommée, le 10 août 1361, au testament de son oncle, messire Guillaume de Rochessauve, damoiseau. La filiation de cette famille se suit depuis Barthelemy, coseigneur de Largentière et juge de Joyeuse au commencement du XVème siècle. Deux seulement de ses enfants paraissent avoir fait souche: Louis et Jean. Louis, juge et chancelier du duc de Bourbon en Forez, devint premier président du Parlement de Languedoc en 1467 et paraît avoir été révoqué en 1471. Son fils Charles, en 1504, fut maître des Requêtes de l'Hôtel et fit, en 1472, partie du conseil de régence de Charles VIII. Il transmit sa charge à son fils, Pierre, qui fut employé dans diverses ambassades. Jean, resté en Vivarais, y fut bailli de Largentière et paraît avoir épousé l'héritière de la maison de Tauriers, dont les armes ont été portées avec les siennes par sa descendance. De ces fils, un seul, Louis, à laissé postérité. Les autres émigrèrent: Ozèas, seigneur de Laurac, en Vivarais, et Cayeux, en Picardie, épousa: 1° Jacqueline d'Ailly, 2° Barbe de Frénoy-Moreil; Olivier, seigneur de La Bastie et de diverses fiefs en Soissonnais, épousa Marguerite du Bois des Querdes et fut chambellan de François I. Il mourut à Londres, en 1522, au cours d'une anbassade; Bernard, abbé de Joyenval, au diocèse de Chartres, fut nommé par le Roi contre le gré du couvent. Louis, fils aîne de Jean, épousa Claude de La Tour de Bians et dénombra au roi, en 1504. Sa postérité a formé deux branches. ...
