Jean-François Verny, médecin à Marseille, fut anobli, dit-on, pour le dévoucement dont il fit preuve lors de la peste en 1720. Nous empruntons la note qui suit, à la "Revue du Vivarais", 1906: François Verny, directeur de la Manufacture royale des draps d'Aubenas, était né en 1728. Il fut d'abord médecin, puis avocat. Il était fils de Thomas Verny, de Villeneuvette, près Clermont-Lodève, et de Françoise Sengla; intéressé dans la manufacture de draps du Pont-d'Aubenas, il s'établit à Aubenas, puis se fit remplacer par son frère Mathieu et retourna à Montpellier où il mourut en 1809. ...
