It is also a habitation name from a place in Northumberland, so called from the Middle English word 'wall' meaning (Roman) wall and 'kerr' meaning marsh. He married 'Jane Talmadge', who came from Newton Stacey, Southampton, England, in 'Governor Winthorp´s' ship, the 'Plough', in 1631, to Boston. He was Charter Member of Ancient and Honourable Artillery Company of Boston in 1638, Head of Reading (now Wakefield) Train Band in, in 1651, and of Lynn Train Band, in 1677.
