Dice Gómez de Arévalo en su "Nobiliario de Vizcaya", que los Zuazo o Z. de la provincia de Álava son notorios hijosdalgo. En la Real Chancillería de Valladolid hay tres pleitos incoados por los de este linaje. Uno de ellos, el más antiguo, seguido por seguido por Pedro y Juan de Zuazo, vecinos de Santa Cruz de Campezo (Álava), y en el que se dieron tres sentencia favorables, la última el 8 de Abril de 1541. Otro pleito fué seguido en 1749, por Manuel, Nicolás de los Santos y Ramón de Zuazo, originarios de la casa de su apellido sita en Ollávarre (Álava). El tercer pleito lo siguió Ignacio Ibáñez de Zuazo, vecino de Ordoñana, también en Álava, y bautizado en Garayo, lugar del partido de Vitoria, donde radicó la casa de su apellido. Se libró Real provisión de nobleza el 14 de Abril de 1788. En Vizcaya hubo varias casas de Zuazo. Una, solar y armera, en el barrio de Galdácano, del partido de Durango; otra, en la Merindad de Uribe, y otra en la villa de Bilbao. En Guipúzcoa, moraron los Zuazo en el lugar de Aozaraza, del partido de Vergara. En Salvatierra de Álava hubo dos casas apellidadas Zuazo de Lazárraga y Z. Ordoñana. Otras casas de Z. radicaron en los lugares de Ecala y Z. , en Navarra. En 18 de Abril de 1847 se libró Real carta de sucesiòn en el título de Marqués de Almeiras, sa favor de Joaquín Zuazo y Mondragón, y el 24 de Agosto de 1871 sucedió en este mismo título Juan Ignacio Zuazo Mondragón y Rendón. ...
