E' famiglia però antica e non sembra temerario, data la quasi identità delle armi gentilizie, pensare a remoti suoi rapporti di parentela coi Federici, nobile ed antica famiglia milanese, originaria dalla Valcamonica. Comunque è accertato che i Federici modenesi, detti volgarmente degli Zuccolini, erano già stabiliti fin dal sec. XIV nella bassa pianura del distretto di Modena.
