En opinión de algunos autores, este noble linaje es, en su origen, el mismo del de Abreu; pero fué siempre creencia generalizada que desde muy antiguo fundó casa solariega aparte, estableciéndola en las montañas de Asturias, cerca de Oviedo, siendo tal solar uno de los principales de aquella región. Don Juan Francisco de Hita, dice: Don Diego de Abreo, noble caballero de esa casa, tuvo una hermana llamada doña Gontruda o Gotrada o Contruenda, que fundó a su costa, en Oviedo, el Monasterio de monjas de Vegua, en donde está enterrada, y en cuyo sepulcro hay un epitafio que declara su linaje. Esa dama tuvo una hija con el Rey de Castilla Don Alfonso VIII, el Emperador, que se llamó doña Urraca; y el Rey, su padre, la casó con D. García Ramírez, décimonono Monarca de Navarra. Las bodas se celebraron en León el 24 de Junio de 1144, y de este matrimonio nació Doña Sancha, Infanta de Navarra. Casó ésta con D. Gastón, Vizconde de Bearne, con el que no tuvo sucesión. Muerto el Vizconde, se unió nuevamente en matrimonio en D. Pedro, Conde de Molina, y tuvieron un hijo llamado D. Almerico o Manrique, que fué Vizconde de Narbona, cuyo Estado heredó de su abuela madame Ormefinda, Vizcondesa propietaria de Narbona, madre del citado D. Pedro. La Reina Doña Urraca, después de haber enviudado del Rey Don García Ramírez, volvió a casarse con un gran caballero llamado D. Alfonso Rodríguez, con el que manifestó el ilustre linaje de Abrego, que Doña Urraca tenía por línea de su madre. ...
