Nobility crown AcquiIl vescovo pro tempore della mensa di Acqui è investito del titolo di Principi del Sacro Romano Impero, dignità la cui origine si perde nella più remota antichità e che si rinviene nei vetusti documenti associata ad altre titolature, le quali, col volgere dei secoli, vennero meno. Il vescovo Carlo Antonio Gozani, nel Sinodo del 1679 e 1699, stampato in Milano nell'anno 1708, si fregia del titolo di "marchese e conte et prencipe del Sacro Romano Impero". Il suo successore Giovanni Battista Roero, nel Sinodo del 1729, si qualifica "comite aquensi ac S. R. I. Principe", titolo che viene ripreso dal vescovo Giuseppe Maria Sciandra nel Sinodo del 1876. Un diploma emanato dall'imperatore Leopoldo, in data 23 marzo 1699, conferma i privilegi spettanti al vescovo, mentre una lettera del Procuratore generale di S. M., datata 21 settembre 1757, sancisce la legittimità per il vescovo di Acqui di assumere il titolo di principe del Sacro Romano Impero, costituendo così un riconoscimento ufficiale di tale prerogativa. ...
