D'après le Nobiliaire d'Auvergne de Bouillet, Bertrand, frère servant de l'ordre du Temple, figura dans le procès de 1309 et Étienne écuyer, fut compris au ban de 1543. Jeanne du Thioland était, en 1571, veuve de noble Gonet seigneur du Monteil, fils de Jacques, seigneurie du Monteil, Giraldet, Fultin, et de Marie de la Font, et frére de Jeanne du Monteil mariée: 1° en 1566 à Guillaume Gueyffier de Bessettes; 2° le 25 avril 1577 à Jacques d'Apchier seigneurie de la Baume, etc. capitaine de 50 hommes d'armes. Un commandeur de la commanderie des Antonins de Frugières le Pin (1622). Cette ancienne famille qui a joué un rôle prépondérant dans l'histoire de la noblesse française, a fourni une foule de personnages illustres dès le XIIème siècle. A ce nom, on attribue un signe distinctif de noblesse représenté par le blason que l'on reproduit ci-dessous et qui confirme aussi à travers ses emblêmes, au point de vue historique et héraldique, l'assurance d'une valeur remarquable.
