Los de este apellido en esta ciudad son nobles y principales, los cuales tienen una ejecutoria antigua, por donde parece que Pedro López de A. probó ser hijo-dalgo notorio de padres y abuelos, de devengar quinientos sueldos, segun fuero de España, y presentó otra probanza hecha por sus antepasados ante el bachiller Martin de Gante, el cual declaró ser hijo-dalgo notorio, y que le fuesen guardadas todas las honras y franquezas que a los hijos-dalgo pretenecen y deben guardar, y condenó al fiscal en costas, cuya fecha es a 30 de noviembre de 1500 años. Diego López de A. fué regidor de los perpétuos, y se halló al juramento de los privilegios desta ciudad cuando entró el emperador en ella, viniendo de la jornada de Argel, año 1541. Y el P. Rizo se espresa en esto términos: Los caballeros A. son de gran nobleza en estos reinos, y tienen su casa en la ciudad de Salamanca, adonde se halla su antigua familia con el decoro y estimacion que se debe a su nobleza. Es general opinion que tienen su orígen de lo mas noble de Alemania, y que en tiempo que los moros tenian ocupada a España, venian algunos de aquellos ilustres príncipes y señores para hallarse en tan gloriosa conquista, y así uno de ellos hizo su asiento en aquella ciudad hasta que Don Diego A. y Maldonado fué electo obispo de Cuenca, y entonces trajo en su compañía tres caballeros sobrinos suyos y de su mismo apellido, de quien descienden los A. de Cuenca.
