Uno de sus más antiguos solares estuvo situado en Galicia y eran descendientes, según la tradición, de los Reyes suevos de Galicia. Hijo del Conde Don Gutierre A. fue San Rosendo, Obispo de Santiago. Este linaje pasó después a Asturias, León, Castilla, Aragón y Andalucía, entroncando con nobles familias y dando lugar a apellidos tan esclarecidos como los de A.-Dávila (Conde de Puñonrostro), A.-Castillo, A. Montalvo, A. de Saavedra (Duques de Rivas) y otros no menos importantes. Don Tomás A. Marín y Cubas, nació en Telde el 29 de noviembre de 1643. Estudió Medicina en Salamanca, donde contrajo matrimonio con Doña Agustina Castañeda. Ejerció en Las Palmas donde falleció el 24 de febrero de 1704, siendo sepultado en la iglesia de Santo Domingo.
