Nobility crown ArtiagaDe una rigurosa pesquisa practicada en el Archivo General de la Compañía de Indias de Sevilla, se desprende con la debida gravedad documental que Pedro de Artiaga, natural de Villafranca, Guipúzcoa, soltero, hijo de Pedro d A. y de Ana de Otamendi, emprendió viaje a Filipinas el 22 noviembre 1578, llevando consigo no mayor caudal que 20 reales de plata y 1 de oro. Llegado a su destino, tomó parte en los negocios públicos, sirvió primeramente en el oficio de Notario y después en el de Funcionario del Virreynato, con tal fortuna en sus empresas que allegó considerable patrimonio, volviendo a España seis años despues. Antes de su regreso, dejó reconocida y dotada una descendencia de ocho hijos, fundamento de memoria familiar y sucesión. Consta asimismo otra casa muy antigua, tenida por muy noble y antigua casa de las Provincias Vascongadas, enlazada por parentesco con la de Manrique, cuyas armas ostenta combinadas con las de Arteaga en su escudo de armas. Se registra igualmente otra casa del mismo apellido en la anteiglesia de Urdúliz, del partido judicial de Bilbao (Vizcaya), ...
