Este linaje es de Aragón, con casa solar muy antigua en la villa de Atarés, del partido judicial de Jaca (Huesca). Dicen algunos autores que los caballeros de este linaje descienden de la casa de Fox en Francia. Ya en el año de 1133 el rico-hombre de Aragón Pedro de A. tuvo muchos votos para ocupar el trono de Aragón y Navarra, vacante por muerte del Rey Alonso el Batallador. Este caballero, Pedro de A., dícese que era hijo del Infante don García, Señor de Navarra y de A., y de doña Margarita, hermana del rico-hombre de Aragón don Caja, caballero que floreció en tiempos de Ramiro el Monje. Fué Señor de Borja. Es indudable que esta familia de A. tomó el apellido de la villa de su nombre, de la cual fueron Señores antes que poseyeran la hoy ciudad de Borja. Sus caballero sirvieron a los Reyes de Aragón, distinguiéndose en numerosos hechos de armas. Juan de A. fundó el monasterio de San Juan de la Peña, y el ya citado Pedro de A., el de Veruela. Fray Juan de A. fué Comendador en la Orden de Alcántara, en 1383. Varias ramas de esta ilustre casa, de ricos-hombres de mesnada, pasaron a otras partes de España, estableciéndose una de ellas en Asturias. ...
