Les premières armes sont les mêmes que celles de la famille de Chanelosc. Nous n'en connaissons pas la raison. On trouve des traces de l'ancienne maison d'Ay, dès le commencement du XIème siècle. La terre d'Ay fut occupée successivement par plusieurs familles connues jusqu'à nos jours. M. E. Nicod nous communique la note suivante: Josserand possédait au XIV ème siècle la coseigneurie d'Ay avec Arnaud d'Yzerand et Artaud de Roussillon-Annonay, celui-ci ayant la préeminence. Sibeaud d'Yzerand abandonna le nom patronymique pour prendre celui de Chanelosc, maison forte située de l'autre côte de la rivière d'Ay, et qui passa ensuite aux Blanchelayne. On peut conjecturer que la famille d'Ay sortait de la maison d'Yzerand, et cette conjecture serait appuyée par l'identité des armes. Le chartrier du château de Vaurenard près Villefranche (Rhône) nous fournit sur cette famille la note suivante: Transaction passée entre Pons de Meyres par Marguerite de sahune sa femme, avec Pierre Rochette, fils de noble Guilhomme Rochette, reçue par Etienne Mitte, notaire, le 7 novembre 1363. Après la mort de ladite demoiselle Marguerite de Sahune noble Pons de Meyres se remaria avec demoiselle Béatrix d'Ay et eut de ce mariage quatre enfants. 1° Jean; 2° Pons; 3° Catherine; 4° Isabeau, comme il se voit par le testament dudit Pons de Meyres, reçu par Jean de la Court, notaire le 29 mai 1374. ...
