Nobility crown AzzellinoCapo stipite degli Ezzelini in Italia fu Ezzolo di Arpone sceso della Germania nel 1036 con Corrado II il Salico, da cui ebbe in dono il castello di Onara e quello di S. Romano dal quale poi si dissero, gli Ezzelini da Romano. Fu inoltre investito quest'Ezzelo del castello e distretto di Bassano e delle due ville di Angarano e Cartiglione, dove esercitò un principesco dominio. Ezzellino suo figlio, detto il Balbo perchè balbuziente, fu crociato in Terra Santa nel 1147, e tornato in patria fu investito dal Vescovo di Feltre del castello di Maser, e da quello di Belluno delle terre di Oderzo e Mussolente. Ezzellino detto il Monaco, perchè pria di morire vestì l'abito dei Benedettini di Campese, capitanò la fazione dei Ghibellini Marchegiani.
