Conosciuta come Azetti o Azzetti, secondo quanto riferisce Domenico Jacovacci, nella sua grandiosa opera manoscritta "Repertorii di famiglie" (in Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, ms. Ottoboni Latini, 2548-2554), in cui ha raccolto notizie su ben 4167 famiglie romane ricavandole da libri, lapidi sepolcrali ed atti notarili, questa casata è originaria della città di Roma, precisamente del rione Trevi, ove sono fioriti: Antonio (1474-1502), Francesco di Antonio (1502), Giovanni, Paluzzo di Giovanni (1428), Giovanni di Paluzzo di Giovanni (1435-1444), Giovanni di Paluzzo (1501). Già dunque patrizia romana, nel corso del XVI-XVII secolo vuolsi che tal famiglia sia passata a risiedere in territorio veneto ove ha continuato nobilmente ad illustrarsi per meriti militari e civili dei suoi rappresentanti.
