Nobility crown BaffiAntica ed assai nobile famiglia calabrese, di origine greco-albanese, conosciuta come Baffa o Baffi ed un cui ramo si è reso celebre con la nomenclatura Baffa Trasci, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni europee. Un cospicuo nucleo fiorisce oggigiorno in Slovacchia. Il capostipite in Italia della casata è tradizione identificarlo nel milite Luca de Baffa, fiorito nel secolo decimoquinto, il quale fu beneficiario di numerosi privilegi da parte dei Sovrani aragonesi, cui la famiglia fu sempre fedelissima. La storia della famiglia è però assai più antica. Essa vuolsi sia emigrata dalla Tessaglia nel 1393 a seguito dell’invasione turca nel despotato dell’Epiro, da dove poi dovette andar via verso il 1473 a seguito dell’espansione dell’Impero Ottomano, trapiantandosi sulle coste dell’Italia meridionale, più precisamente nel paese di Santa Sofia, in provincia di Cosenza.
