Antica e nobile famiglia genovese, oriunda da Clavarezza, presso Savignone, e da Rapallo, di chiara e avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia, con maggiori insediamenti in Sardegna. I primi riferimenti storici al casato si hanno già nel secolo decimo secondo. Alfonso Banchero è consigliere genovese nel 1173. Nell'istrumento di pace con i pisani figurano, sempre in qualità di consiglieri: Alfonso, Ansaldo, Alcherio, Bernardo, Taddeo, Ermo, Albertono e Nino Banchero. Nella distrutta chiesa di S. Andrea di Sestri Ponente, vedevasi la lapide sepolcrale di Lanfranco e di suo figlio Oliverio Banchero, segnata dell'anno 1188. Martino Banchero è degli otto nobili nel 1242, Lanfranco nel 1240. Enrico era consigliere nel 1251. Ansaldo e Montanaro Banchero prestarono denari al comune nel 1271. Nel 1550 Bernardo, del fu Bartolomeo, fu ascritto in famiglia Negrone.
