Famille de robe du Puy, maintenue dans sa noblesse par M. de Bezons intendant du Languedoc le 3 janvier 1671 et réprésenté à l'assemblèe des nobles du Velay le 31 mars 1789. Pierre, du Puy, percevait des cens dans le mandement de Mercœur en 1347, ainsi que Vital en 1383. Filiation suivie depuis Raymond avocat, qui dans son testament du 19 septembre 1579, institue héritier Nicolas son fils, docteur ès-droits et avocat, marié le 16 janvier 595 à Catherine du Blanc. Celui-ci fut le père de Jacques, procureur du Roi en la juridiction des gabelles, allié le 12 fèvrier 1630 à Antoinette de Colomb, d'où: Gabriel seigneur de Rachat, Chantilhac, etc. jurisconsulte habile, juge en la Cour royale et commune du Puy, substitut du procureur général en la Cour souveraine des Comptes, aides et finances de Montpellier, taxé comme noble ou tenant fief en 1695, et inscrit l'année suivante dans d'Hozier. Il avait épousé le 16 février 1663 Madeleine Gènestet et en eut: Armand marié à Catherine Bertrand d'où: Jean-François-Armand seigneur de rachar, Chantilhac, la Roche,etc. conseiller du Roi et lieutenant particulier au siège présidial du Puy, marié à Jacqueline Roche. Cette maison a en autre fourni: plusieurs chanoines et dignitaires du chapitre de la cathédrale dont Joseph Vosy Stanislas vicaire-général du diocèse, abbé de St-Vosy et dernier abbé de Doue (1787), déporté pendant la Révolution; des chanoines de la collégiale de St-Agrève; de nombreux religieux; deux premiers consuls du Puy (1553-1561); un sub-délégué de l'intendant de Languedoc (1772), etc..
