Toraldo, on the other hand, in his "The seat and the Nobility of Tropea" makes the family descend from a Geracio, a French soldier, coming from Provence, following Charles I of Anjou, from whom he received the fief of La Cattiva and Livaldi in Calabria, with a concession dated 23 July 1279. D’argento a tre fascie ondate d’azzurro, col capo dello stesso, sostenuto dalla trangla d’oro e caricato da tre stelle del medesimo. Corona di marchese.

Blasone della famiglia Barone di Reggio. Fonte bibliografica: "Nobiliario di Sicilia" di Antonio Mango di Casalgerardo (Palermo, A. Reber, 1912) custodito presso la biblioteca centrale della regione Sicilia. Note: Questa mobilissima famiglia della città di Reggio, godette anche nobiltà in Messina. Vanta un Guglielmo consigliere del re Ferdinando nel 1467, un Paolo, nipote del precedente, vice secreto di Reggio nel 1529 e padre di Giovan Domenico, da cui ne venne: Silvio sindaco di detta città nel 1565 ed ambasciatore per la stessa presso il serenissimo D. Giovanni D’Austria. Un Ottavio, figlio del precedente, fu barone di Montebello, per la moglie Lucrezia Abbenavoli, titolo poscia innalzato in quello di marchese e che il Galluppi attribuisce nel suo Nobiliario di Messina al comm. Carlo-Alfonso Barone contrammiraglio nella R. Marina. Nella Mastra nobile di Messina del 1807 troviamo annotato un Domenico marchese di Montebello, con i figli Paolo e Giuseppe, quest’ultimo brigadiere nel reali eserciti. È passata questa famiglia varie volte all’ordine di Malta.

Note: Nobile famiglia di Naro, alla quale il Minutolo da per ceppo un Masullo nobile di detta città e padre di un Calcerando. A questi da per figlio un Giovanni padre di un Giovanni Ferdinando secreto di Naro nel 1527, ciò che viene anche detto del Villabianca nel suo secondo volume d’Appendice alla Sicilia Nobile. Fu Giovan-Ferdinando padre di Melchiorra che sposò il nobile spagnolo Baldassare del Castillo e diede i natali a quel Giovan Francesco del Castillo e Barone, celebre giureconsulto, giudice della Gran Corte, Uditore generale delle genti di guerra, e maestro razionale del tribunale del R. Patrimonio. Un Ferdinando-Martino sergente maggiore, fu castellano di Agosta 1669. È passata all’ordine di Malta.
