Come ben giusta il genealogista Giovan Battista Crollalanza, nei volumi del suo "Dizionario storico-blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane estinte e fiorenti", pubblicato a Pisa nel 1886 in tre volumi di oltre 1400 pagine, questa illustre famiglia fu fregiata del titolo comitale. Il nome della casata è presente anche nel volume, conservato negli archivi dello S.M.O.M., compilato nella seconda metà del XVIII secolo per stabilire un nuovo piano per i processi dei pretendenti al grado di Cavaliere di Malta.
