Antichissimi in Firenze, i Bellazzi, talvolta chiamati anche Bellacci, hanno goduto per ventisei volte il priorato, prima per il sesto di S. Pietro Scheraggio e poi per il quartiere di Santa Croce, a partire dal 1342, in persona di Bellaccio, di Puccio. D’altronde, tal famiglia, nel dispiegarsi dei lustri, sempre è riuscita a produrre una serie di uomini che hanno reso illustre il suo nome, nei pubblici impieghi, nelle professioni liberali ed ecclesiastiche e nel servizio militare.
