This was a family of merchants that, for having rendered many services to the Order of Malta, received favors and privileged distinctions in exchange. Ancient diplomas of the Duke of Savoy report "being in ancient times nobles descended from nobles of Milan (...) with ancient privileges lost in the siege of Rhodes, where they had been taken by the late monsignor Tommaso Bosio and by Fra Antonio Bosio". In any case, this family is originally from Milan but in very ancient times moved to Chivasso. From the Bosio of Chivasso originated both the Turin line and that of the Cuneo area, i.e. that of Santo Stefano Belbo to which in fact the same coat of arms of the Bosio of Chivasso is attributed.
