La nobile famiglia Brevei trae le sue antiche origini dal Poggio di Belvedere, luogo ameno situato nella villa di Promontorio, dominante dall'alto il borgo di San Pier d'Arena. Essa, per le sue virtù e per la sua distinta reputazione, ottenne il privilegio della cittadinanza genovese nell'anno di grazia 1415. Tra i suoi membri eminenti si distinse Lodisio, uomo di specchiata saggezza e prudenza, il quale ricoprì con onore la carica di Consigliere negli anni 1499 e 1501, e fu elevato alla dignità di Anziano nell'anno 1502. Nel memorabile anno 1528, la famiglia Brevei venne solennemente ascritta all'illustre Albergo dei Fieschi, segno inequivocabile della stima e del prestigio di cui godeva presso le più nobili casate della Repubblica di Genova.
