I Caggio, ovvero Kaggio, sono casato nobile e d’antica schiatta palermitana, il cui nome risplende nei fasti della storia cittadina. Tomeo, altresì detto Tommaso, resse l’ufficio di giurato negli anni del Signore 1510-1511 e nuovamente nel 1516-1517; similmente, un Luca esercitò la medesima dignità negli anni 1528-1529, 1531-1532 e ancora nel 1559-1560; un Pietro tenne tale carica nel 1588-1589, e un Giacomo nel 1591-1592. Questa illustre famiglia, la cui virtù e valore furono sempre riconosciuti, ebbe l’onore d’essere accolta nell’Ordine di Malta. Giorgio Caggio, gentiluomo di stirpe tedesca, militò sotto i medesimi sovrani e fu castellano del Palaio di Palermo. Suo figlio, Luca, servì quale paggio presso la corte del Re Martino e, per nozze, si unì alla figlia di Nicolò Rubberto, nobile palermitano. Da tal unione nacque Thomaso, uomo di grande virtù, il quale nel 1450 fu chiamato a ricoprire la dignità di Giurato della sua patria. Parimenti, suo fratello Nicolò resse tale carica negli anni 1462 e 1463, mentre Thomaso, figlio del suddetto Nicolò, fu investito della stessa nel 1510 e nuovamente nel 1516.
