Lejos de ellos, resulta bastante difícil, si no imposible, establecer nexo y coyuntura entre las casas solares de este apellido en diversas regiones. Tampoco puede probarse que el linaje proceda del patricio romano C. Atenedoro, como pretenden algunos cronistas muy propicios a la exageración y a la fantasía. Otros encuentran el origen y tronco del apellido C. en el famoso Conde y Juez de Castilla Laín Flavio C., y robustecen su aseveración con la siguiente genealogía que, aun cuando ofrece muchas de las oscuridades propias de los antiguos tiempos en que florecieron sus personajes, tiene la ventaja de estar comprobada, en parte, por la Historia. Laín Flavio C., Conde y Juez de Castilla, casó con doña Teresa Núñez Bella, hija de Nuño Rasura, también Juez de Castilla.
